Besides doing what you enjoy, an added benefit of being involved in an extracurricular activity is that you may qualify for a scholarship. Ask your activity advisor if your group offers a scholarship for members. Also, if your club is part of a national organization, check with the national office to see if they sponsor a scholarship.
The National Honor Society (http://www.nhs.us), for example, gives scholarships through both the local school chapters and through the national organization. Some scholarships offered by the national organization may require nomination by your local club.
