Bowdoin College: Compatibility with Personality Types and Preferences

bowdoin college 300x199 Bowdoin College: Compatibility with Personality Types and Preferences Bowdoin College brings to mind the words “laid back” and “intense” at the same time. The Bowdoin undergraduate is in pursuit of acquiring very large, sweeping ideas as they apply to society. It’s a demanding endeavor so there is plenty of stress relief in the campus environment starting on Friday night. Faculty question students by making observations of what “is.”

Student answers could be more complex questions. Bowdoin undergrads become accustomed to ambiguity and discovery as paths to learning (P). It is OK to delay and get lost in the process before a good answer appears, maybe even more than one right answer will surface.

This open, intuitive, approach (N) is nicely applied in the physical sciences at Bowdoin. Their philosophy in the sciences is to approach the studies through stewardship and conservation which calls for creative problem solving. At the same time, there is another notion very much present on campus, referred to as the ‘common good.’ It seems to drive a wedge of utility into all the academic majors.
